Lefty Kreh TieFest

March 7: The Lefty Kreh TieFest, sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, will include a dinner at which participants eat alongside legendary fly-fishermen. Such luminaries as Kreh, Bob Clouser and Bob Popovics will participate in the event at Prospect Bay Country Club, 313 Prospect Bay Drive West, Grasonville. Admission to TieFest is free for CCA members and $10 for nonmembers. Nonmembers can join CCA at the door for $25 and receive free admission. Tickets for the dinner that night are $150 for all participants. TieFest will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will be able observe tying by experts and learn from guides, fishing shops and angling organizations about places to fish and techniques to use. Red Shoe Shuffle

April 12: The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore will present the 4th Annual Red Shoe Shuffle 5K Run and Walk beginning at 9 a.m. at 635 W. Lexington St. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and largest fundraisers. Adult registration costs $40 until Jan. 31 and $45 starting Feb. 1. Registration for children 12 and under costs $10 until race day. Ronald McDonald House Charities are open to families in need of respite care while their children are being treated at hospitals. Adam Thompson 5K

April 26: The 4th Annual Adam Thompson 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Harford Community College at 401 Thomas Run Road in Bel Air. The race, on a USA Track and Field certified 5K course, honors the memory of Adam Thompson, an HCC student who was killed in an automobile accident in 2011. Proceeds will benefit The Adam Thompson Memorial Nursing Scholarship at HCC and The Adam Thompson Memorial Education Scholarship at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health. Red Trout tournament

Sept. 18-20: The Huk Performance Fishing-CCA Red Trout Catch & Release Tournament will be hosted by Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield. The Coastal Conservation Association Maryland event attracts light tackle, fly and kayak anglers, and this year a live bait category has been added. The tournament promotes sustainable, catch-and-release fishing methods in which anglers photograph their catch for digital submittals in lieu of a weigh-in. The Red Trout tournament was founded in 2013 to draw attention to the value of redfish and speckled trout that have been making a comeback in the Chesapeake Bay the past four years.
