As bowhunters get ready for the upcoming season, here are some tips to keep you safe and make your hunting trips successful.
Make sure your equipment is in good working order. If not, you risk the chance of misfiring. Your arrows should be stored at or near room temperature and not in extreme heat or cold.
Keep your broadheads sharpened and in quiver while hunting. Loosely kept arrows can rub up against rocks and dull the broadhead — or worse, stick you.
Don't carry equipment up a tree. While you might think you are nimble enough to climb a tree while carrying your weapon, it's best to tie a rope around the bow and pull it up after you reached the tree stand.
Bring a cell phone, first-aid kit and whenever possible, don't shoot alone.
Familiarize yourself with your surroundings and those hunting near you.
