When you play as many games as Cal Ripken Jr. did with the Orioles, you’re going to strikeout. And when you play in a major league record 2,632 straight over 16 seasons and finish with 3,001 in an Orioles uniform, setting the franchise record for strikeouts is an afterthought.
Then there’s Chris Davis, whose season-long slump has been among the worst in baseball history as the All-Star break nears. Davis struck out swinging in the ninth inning of Thursday night’s 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins, tying Ripken for the most strikeouts in Orioles history with 1,305.
Ripken played 21 seasons for the Orioles. Davis is in his eighth.
