No. 5 Denver bounced back from a loss to then-No. 1 Duke in convincing fashion courtesy of Baptiste. The 5-foot-10, 230-pound Tewaaraton Award finalist from a year ago won 22-of-22 faceoffs and scooped up 13 ground balls in the Pioneers’ 17-8 thumping of Cleveland State on Sunday. Baptiste won the second-most faceoffs without losing one in a game in NCAA Division I history, trailing only Sacred Heart’s Zach Smith’s 25-of-25 performance against Hartford on April 25, 2007. Baptiste’s total of 20-plus faceoffs was the 18th of his career, which includes eight such performances in his team’s last 13 games. Baptiste, who owns 11 of the top 19 faceoff outings in program history, was named the Big East’s Midfielder of the Week.
