To the victor go the spoils, and to that end, the Maryland men’s lacrosse team will open the 2018 season as the top-ranked team in Division I.
The Terps were selected the No. 1 team in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s coaches poll, which was released Tuesday. They went 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten last year while marching to their first NCAA tournament championship since 1975.
Rounding out the top five are NCAA quarterfinalists Duke at No. 2 and Albany at No. 3, semifinalist Denver at No. 4 and qualifier Yale at No. 5.
Three other area programs are ranked in the Top 20. They are NCAA qualifiers Johns Hopkins (8-7) at No. 11, Loyola Maryland (10-6) at No. 13 and semifinalist Towson (12-5) at No. 14.
