I don't really look at it as being the shutdown defender. I look at it as being the team defense. Being a shutdown defenseman in high school, I learned very quickly in college that it's all about team defense. You may have one or two guys that can go out and press on the ball, but it's all about team defense. No one ever has a game where he can't get by you at least one time. So as a whole, I think our defense is growing a lot. Some games, I'm able to keep people at zero goals, and that's huge because I wouldn't have been able to do it without [sophomore defensemen] Brian Cooper and Michael Ehrhardt and [junior long-stick midfielder] Jesse Bernhardt and [junior short-stick defensive midfielder] Landon Carr and [senior short-stick defensive midfielder] David Miller and [sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder] Greg D'Arienzo. It takes a tremendous effort from those guys because if a guy gets one step on me, they're right there.
