College lacrosse Game of the week

No. 4 Syracuse (8-2 overall) vs. No. 2 North Carolina (12-2)

When: Friday, 8 p.m.

Outlook: Following No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 6 Duke in the first semifinal of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, the nightcap pits the Tar Heels and the Orange in a rematch of an April 18 game that North Carolina won, 17-15, after enjoying a 15-9 advantage in the fourth quarter. Will the Orange be rusty after not playing since April 14 in an 18-5 thrashing of Hobart? Can the Tar Heels bounce back from Saturday's 15-14 loss to the Fighting Irish in which North Carolina squandered a 14-12 lead with less than two minutes to go?

No. 18 Johns Hopkins (12-3) at Towson (8-7)

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

Outlook: While this game won't light up the national radar, it's key for both teams as the season winds down. The Blue Jays have won 11 of their past 12 games, dealing No. 5 Stony Brook its only loss and losing only to No. 1 Maryland. Playing an independent schedule, however, the Blue Jays need to maintain that momentum for a chance at an NCAA Tournament bid. For the Tigers, who pushed No. 2 North Carolina into double overtime in March, a win would provide a springboard into next weekend's Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, where they are three-time defending champs but seeded fourth. Johns Hopkins won, 12-8, last season, its fourth straight win over Towson, and leads the series 13-7.
