College lacrosse Games of the Week

No. 5 Syracuse (5-1) women at No. 1 Maryland (4-0)

When: Saturday, noon

Outlook: Last season, Syracuse lost only three games but all were to the Terps, including the 15-12 national championship final. The Terps, who have won 15 straight, catch the Orange as it tries to rebound from Saturday's 10-9 loss to No. 4 Boston College. Maryland has an edge in experience and leadership, picking up right where it left off with 10 returning starters. Syracuse had big turnover caused by graduation but brings back many players with significant experience. The Orange, however, might have a little extra insight into the Terps' game with junior attacker Halle Majorana, who transferred from Maryland after last season.

No. 3 Notre Dame men (3-0) at No. 4 Denver (3-1)

When: Saturday, 3 p.m.

Outlook: The Pioneers will attempt to prove that last week's 12-10 loss at No. 2 North Carolina was an anomaly. The Fighting Irish will try to rub it in the faces of pollsters who moved No. 1 Syracuse and North Carolina ahead of them. One storyline to watch is the matchup between potential Tewaaraton Award finalists. Notre Dame junior attackman Matt Kavanagh is tied for eighth in Division I at 5.3 points per game. Denver sophomore midfielder Connor Cannizzaro is tied for third at 6.0 points per game.
