Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco left Thursday night's game late in the second quarter after a late hit by Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso, knocking Flacco's helmet off and causing a cut on his left ear.
Flacco was assisted to the locker room after the hit, and the Ravens later announced he would miss the rest of the game with a concussion.
Here's some of the reaction from analysts and former players to the hit on Twitter:
Ronnie Stanley called Alonso’s hit dirty and said he should’ve been ejected.— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) October 27, 2017
NFL has to disincentivize hits like Alonso's. Knocked the opposing QB out for the game and he's still playing.— Bill Barnwell (@billbarnwell) October 27, 2017
I honestly don't know if Alonso was already starting his tackle before Flacco gave himself up. What if you just can't stop inertia?— Aaron Schatz 🏈 (@FO_ASchatz) October 27, 2017
Bad look for NFL in nationally televised game that Alonso is still playing while Flacco got head taken off. Exactly what trying to avoid.— Ross Tucker (@RossTuckerNFL) October 27, 2017
No way he should be still on the field after that hit smh— Justin Forsett (@JForsett) October 27, 2017
You have flagrant penalty language in place and centralized reviews/officiating and all Alonso gets is 15 yards. System failure— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) October 27, 2017
According to some Dolphins fans, Flacco's head aggressively attacked Alonso's elbow.— mike freeman (@mikefreemanNFL) October 27, 2017
Bill Cowher & Deion Sanders both defend Alonso during the halftime show. Cowher agrees with penalty b/c of rules but says Flacco slid late— Greg Likens (@GregLikens) October 27, 2017
Slow motion replay can’t demonize Kiko.— Spencer Paysinger (@PYSNGR) October 27, 2017
Y’all don’t understand how fast you have to decide how to tackle a QB on the run.
I get that Joe Flacco was trying to pick up the 1st down, but he slid short of the sticks and Kiko didn't have to go low with that hit.— Ryan Mink (@ryanmink) October 27, 2017
One flag for the whole Kiko Alonso hit and aftermath is quite the joke. Could have been three ejections.— Don Banks (@DonBanks) October 27, 2017
Never saw high angle w pre-roll before the hit but I think 47 was fully engaged in making the tackle before 5 slid. Could be wrong.— Kenny Mayne (@Kenny_Mayne) October 27, 2017
Flacco just got obliterated. Helmet came flying off. Eject Alonzo for that. Unbelievably classless hit.— Patrik [No C] Walker (@VoiceOfTheStar) October 27, 2017
