Shane Taylor scored from 1 yard out as time expired to give host Holy Cross a 29-26 victory over Morgan State on Saturday.

Taylor ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns, while Peter Pujals went 16-for-29 for 193 yards and a score to lead Holy Cross (1-1), which bounced back after squandering a fourth-quarter lead in its opener. Pujals added 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground, while Jake Wieczorek caught five passes for 112 yards.

Herb Walker ran for 272 yards and two touchdowns for Morgan State (0-2), which outgained the Crusaders 356-186 on the ground. Robert Council was limited to 7-for-18 passing for 57 yards and a touchdown but ran for 83 yards on 11 carries.

Holy Cross looked like it was in good shape when Taylor capped a 12-play drive with a 1-yard run to give the Crusaders a 9-0 lead seven minutes into the first quarter. But the Bears picked it up from there, sandwiching two field goals around Council's 21-yard touchdown pass to grab a 13-9 lead before Pujals' 7-yard touchdown run sent Holy Cross into the break leading 16-13.

The teams traded leads throughout the second half, with Walker's 2-yard run putting Morgan State on top 26-23 with 3:39 to play. The Crusaders marched down the field in 14 plays on the ensuing drive, capped by Taylor's game-winning score.

Johns Hopkins 42, Randolph-Macon 3: The host Blue Jays (1-0) rushed for 261 yards and five touchdowns and forced three turnovers by the Yellow Jackets (0-1) to win.

Johns Hopkins, which is ranked 14th by D3football.com, won for the 16th straight time in the month of September and improved to 34-1 in its last 35 regular-season games.

The 39-point margin of victory is Johns Hopkins' largest in a season opener since 1959, when Hopkins topped Franklin & Marshall, 42-0.

The Johns Hopkins offense got going late in the first quarter as the Blue Jays broke through on their third possession with a 12-yard touchdown run by sophomore Dionisio Roman, who got through the line untouched and then ran over a Randolph-Macon defensive back at the goal line to open the scoring.

St. Anselm 23, Bowie State 22: Shane Grayson's 38-yard field goal with 3:26 remaining in the fourth quarter lifted the Hawks Anselm (1-0) over the Bulldogs (0-1), as St.Anselm stormed back from a 22-7 deficit late in the third quarter to earn the road victory.

The Hawks were led by quarterback Yianni Gavalas, who completed 20 of 38 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns. Bowie State quarterback Matthew Goggans completed 15 of 31 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns.

Both teams produced a lot of yards on offense, with St. Anselm outgaining the Bulldogs 395-370.

Salisbury 41, Christopher Newport 32: The Sea Gulls held off a late rally from the Captains (0-1) to win their season opener.

Salisbury stormed to a 21-7 lead before Christopher Newport cut the lead to 21-20 and later 28-26. Sea Gulls quarterback John Dunbar ran for 111 yards and three scores.

Frostburg State 24, Geneva 19: Senior quarterback Ken Emmons threw for 143 yards and ran for 86, leading the host Bobcats (1-0) to a 24-19 win over the Tornadoes (0-1) in a game delayed an hour because of lightning.

Frostburg State entered the fourth quarter with a 24-6 lead before 13 unanswered points brought Geneva within five.

Stevenson 40, North Carolina Wesleyan 19: The Mustangs (1-0) blew out the host Bishops (0-1) behind running back Trey Lee's 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Stevenson quarterback Jeff Farrah threw for 131 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 38 yards and a score.
