Digest (Nov. 18): Maryland women play UConn in basketball

The 13th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (2-1) will take on No. 1 Connecticut (2-0) today at 1:30 p.m. at the XL Center in Hartford. The game will be televised on ESPN. This is the seventh meeting between Maryland and Connecticut, all since 2012.

College field hockey: Ninth-ranked Maryland (16-6) will take on No. 1 Connecticut (22-0) in the NCAA Championship game today at 2 p.m. at Louisville's Trager Stadium.


College cross country: Johns Hopkins' women's team won its second straight NCAA Division III title and fifth in six years on Saturday on the campus of Principia College. Ellie Clawson finished third with a time of 20 minutes, 47 seconds for the Blue Jays. She was just under two seconds behind the second-place finisher. Hopkins' men's team placed 17th.

Men's college soccer: Johns Hopkins lost a shootout at third-ranked Tufts on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Sweet 16.

Women's college soccer: Freshman Riley O'Toole scored twice to lift Johns Hopkins to a 2-0 win over SUNY Geneseo in the NCAA Sweet 16. The Blue Jays play Williams today with a trip to the NCAA semifinals on the line.

Men's college water polo: Junior Taylor Bernhardt (Annapolis) was selected to the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference-East All-Conference second team.

Women's college basketball: Senior Kyah Proctor was voted the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week, graduate student Sade Chatman was selected as Newcomer of the Week and coach Shadae Swan was named Coach of the Week.

College swimming: Washington College junior Julia Portmann and sophomore Jake Brown were selected as swimmers of the week for the Centennial Conference.

College wrestling: Navy won the 40th annual Navy Classic at Wesley Brown Field House. It is the first team championship in the Navy Classic for the Midshipmen since winning seven of eight titles from 2004 to 2011. Nicholas Gil, Drew Daniels and Jadaen Bernstein won their weight classes to pace the Midshipmen scoring.

Major Arena Soccer League: The Blast (2-1) lost to the host Florida Tropics, 5-4, Saturday night. Lucas Teixiera scored with 19 seconds left to give the Tropics the victory. Florida's Mauricio Salles scored his 200th career goal in the game. Vini Dantas and Marco Nascimento led the Blast with one goal and one assist each and William Vanzela had 9 saves. The Blast host the Ontario Fury on Dec. 1 and the St. Louis Ambush on Dec. 2 at Towson University's SECU Arena.

Horse racing: Toby Roth's Northern Eclipse, reverting to her stakes-winning form from this summer, outsprinted the field early and dug in down the stretch to hold off long shot Biter and win Saturday's featured eighth race at Laurel Park.
