Maryland men's soccer beats No. 5 Indiana on road, 2-1

Men's college soccer: Maryland (7-3-2, 3-2-1 Big Ten Conference) picked up its first road victory this season by topping No. 5 Indiana, 2-1. Senior midfielder Alex Shinsky scored in the 20th minute and sophomore defender Alex Crognale scored his first career goal to lift the Terps to their fourth straight win. Indiana (8-2-3, 2-2-1) ended the Terps' 343-minute shutout streak when junior forward Femi Holinger-Janzen scored in the 73rd minute.

Women's college soccer: Host Maryland (5-4-6, 3-2-5 Big Ten) came back from an early deficit and played to a 1-1 tie against Illinois (9-4-1, 4-3-1). The draw is the Terps' fourth straight. ... Freshman forward Virginia Moyer scored her first career goal in the 72nd minute to help visiting UMBC (11-3-2, 3-1-2 America East Conference) defeat first-place Hartford, 1-0. UMBC extended its winning streak to five games, while Hartford fell to 8-3-4, 4-1-1 on the season. UMBC's Jen Nance (Severna Park) added to her single-season program record with her eighth shutout.

College field hockey: Host No. 2 Maryland (13-2, 5-1 Big Ten) blanked Rutgers, 4-0. Junior defender Sarah Sprink scored twice to help the Terps beat the Scarlet Knights (6-9, 1-6) and earn their eighth straight win.

Major League Soccer: D.C. United (17-9-7) earned the top playoff seed in the Eastern Conference and a berth in the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League with its 2-1 win over the visiting Chicago Fire (5-18-10) on Saturday. This is the second postseason berth in three years for United, which got goals from Chris Pontius and Eddie Johnson.

NBA: Guard Kim English (Randallstown) was cut Saturday by the Chicago Bulls. English, 24, who attended Missouri, played for two European teams last year after being waived by the Detroit Pistons. He was Detroit's second-round draft pick in 2012 and averaged 2.9 points in 41 games in 2012-13.
