St. Mary's pitcher Elliot Zoellner, whose junior season was cut short because of an injury, has committed orally to Maryland. Zoellner, a rising senior, made just four appearances last season and went 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA. He went a combined 14-0 with four complete games and 117 strikeouts in 83 innings his first two years at St. Mary's.

Basketball: After a pair of dominating wins Friday and Saturday, DMV's Finest lost Sunday in The Basketball Tournament and was eliminated with an 85-73 loss to the Liberty Ballers. The team, which was co-coached by former Terps Juan Dixon and John Auslander and which advanced to the quarterfinals in a smaller field last season, was playing for the Zaching Against Cancer Foundation in support of former Maryland men's basketball manager Zach Lederer (Centennial), who died last year after a battle with brain cancer. The winner of the tournament receives a $1 million grand prize.
Major League Soccer: D.C. United defender Jalen Robinson (Mount Saint Joseph) has been selected to the 22-player roster for the MLS Homegrown game. The team will be coached by Landon Donovan. The MLS Homegrown Team will take on the under-20 Club American team July 28.
WNBA: Kara Lawson scored a season-best 24 points as the host Washington Mystics rallied to beat the Connecticut Sun, 89-82, on Sunday night. The Mystics (8-6) pulled away with a late 10-2 run, and Washington broke the 10th and final tie to take an 84-76 lead with less than a minute left. Alyssa Thomas (Maryland) had two points and eight rebounds for Connecticut (7-7).
Pan American Games: Frederick native Marilyn Little won a pair of gold medals Sunday in equestrian eventing competition, helping to clinch the United States' spot in the 2016 Summer Olympics. Little won the individual gold with a score of 40.30 and, in the team competition, her U.S. team won with a score of 133.0, beating second-place Brazil. … Ashley Nee (Maryland), a Darnestown native, won the bronze medal Sunday in the canoe slalom women's K1 event.
Triathlon: Cockeysville native Billy Busko, 51, finished first Sunday among men ages 50 to 54 in the New York City Triathlon with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 1 second. He placed 41st overall in a field of more than 4,000. Busko has won his age division in the race for four straight years and five of the past six.
