Digest: Maryland's Taylor Cummings wins third Honda Sport Award in women's lacrosse

Maryland senior Taylor Cummings (McDonogh) was named the Honda Sport Award winner for lacrosse for the third straight year. The Collegiate Women's Sports Award Honda Sport Award has presented the honor for the past 40 years to the top women's athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics." "It's an incredible honor to win the prestigious Honda Award again," Cummings said in a release. "My successes on the field wouldn't have been possible without the support and encouragement from my coaches, teammates and family. I've had the best four years of my life in College Park and I'm forever grateful to be a Terp." With the award, Cummings, who on Thursday won her third straight Tewaaraton Award, becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the 2016 Honda Cup, which will be presented June 27 in Los Angeles. Finalists included Maryland's Alice Mercer (Century), Notre Dame's Barbara Sullivan and Syracuse's Kayla Treanor.

More women's college lacrosse: Towson women's lacrosse seniors Breanna Hamm and Emily Roth (Severn) closed out their careers by competing in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association North/South Senior All-Star Game on Saturday in Radnor, Pa. Loyola Maryland's Jen Adams coached Hamm and Roth on the South squad. The North won, 13-4. … Salisbury senior Megan Wallenhorst (Centennial) earned first-team Academic All-America honors.

College athletics: Navy's Chet Gladchuk was named the recipient of the National Football Foundation's John L. Toner Award, awarded annually to an athletic director who has demonstrated superior administrative abilities and shown outstanding dedication to college athletics, particularly college football. "Since taking over as Navy's Athletics Director in 2001, Chet has overseen a renaissance of the Naval Academy athletic program," NFF president and CEO Steve Hatchell said in a release. "His leadership has helped create one of the most successful periods in school history, including great success by the football team. His accomplishments place him at the forefront of his profession and make him truly worthy of this prestigious honor."

College baseball: UMBC senior Kevin Lachance and junior Hunter Dolshun were honored as second-team All-ECAC. … Coppin State senior John Kraft was named to the Black College Nines' Elite second team.

College softball: Mount St. Mary's junior Rachel Heinze was named a second-Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference performer at the utility position.

Men's college swimming: Johns Hopkins junior Andrew Greenhalgh was named a first-team Academic All-American.

Major League Soccer: D.C. United has moved its June 22 home match against the New England Revolution to June 25 because Saturdays are better than Wednesdays for ticket sales and RFK Stadium accessibility. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Original tickets will be accepted at the gate. Ticket holders wanting to exchange for a different match or request a refund should call the club.

NHL: The Washington Capitals will host Caps Fan Fest on June 29 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va., with activities beginning at 3 p.m. The Caps Alumni Exhibition will take place at 7:30 p.m. and will include Matt Bradley, Kevin Kaminski, Olie Kolzig and Dennis Maruk. The team's development camp will run from June 28 to July 2 and is free to the public with a scrimmage set for 10:30 a.m. on July 2.
