Towson falls to James Madison in CAA women's lacrosse final, 13-6

Second-seeded James Madison avenged last year's title game loss to Towson by beating the fourth-seeded Tigers on Sunday, 13-6, to win the Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Del. Towson, which had won three consecutive CAA titles, ended the year 9-9, while the No. 19 Dukes head to the NCAA tournament with a 15-4 record. Andi Raymond scored two goals and had two assists in the defeat, while sophomore Michelle Gildea had two goals on three shots.

More state: Leading 7-1 at halftime, visiting Johns Hopkins held off a late Duke rally and won, 9-8, in its regular-season finale. The No. 17 Blue Jays (14-3) held the No. 4 Blue Devils (14-4) to their second-lowest scoring output of the season. Dene' DiMartino and Haley Schweizer each finished with a hat trick in the win.

Terps guard Wells invited to NBA's predraft camp

Maryland men's basketball star Dez Wells has been invited to the NBA's predraft camp in Chicago, held May 14-16, according to sources. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound senior guard earned All-Big Ten Conference honors after averaging a career-high 15.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game last season. Wells is not projected to be taken in the June 25 draft, according to DraftExpress.com's latest mock draft.

Major League Soccer: Fabian Espindola had a goal and an assist and D.C. United beat the Columbus Crew, 2-0, on Saturday night to move into a tie for first place in Major League Soccer. Espindola opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing Chris Rolfe's end-to-end break with a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Steve Clark. Sean Franklin volleyed home Espindola's corner kick in the 41st. United (5-1-2) won its second straight game, extending its unbeaten streak to six. Federico Higuain narrowly missed a header in the 53rd minute for the Crew (3-3-2), which had won four straight.

National Women's Soccer League: Seattle Reign FC defeated the visiting Washington Spirit on Saturday night, 3-1. The Reign (2-2) got goals from Beverly Yanez, Merritt Mathias and Jessica Fishlock, while Joanna Lohman scored for Washington (2-2).

College baseball: No. 23 Maryland lost to visiting Indiana, 6-2, as the Hoosiers completed a weekend sweep. The Terps (32-16, 11-7 Big Ten) fell behind early after Indiana (26-19, 9-10) scored five runs in the third inning. … Towson (15-30-2, 8-13 CAA) suffered a 16-6 loss to Northeastern (21-24, 11-7) in its home finale.

Junior golf: Brady Pevarnik of Latrobe, Pa., shot a 5-over-par 147 and held on for a one-stroke victory in the boys division of the Preseason Junior at Chesapeake Bay presented by Golf Performance Center. Zachary Barbin of Elkton finished tied for fourth with a two-round score of 150. In the girls division, Lauren Muhlbauer of Newtown, Pa., won after posting a 12-over-par 154 at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club at Rising Sun.
