Derek Brown, the winningest coach in Coppin State women's basketball history, announced his retirement after 30 years at the school. Brown coached the Eagles for the past 17 seasons and finished with an overall record of 269-237. Previously, he was an assistant coach on the men's staff for 15 years, beginning in 1986.
"It has been an enjoyable ride, all 30 years here at Coppin," Brown said. "To me doing what you love to do as a job was a blessing for 30 years. I hope that everyone gets to do a job that they totally enjoy doing. I woke up every morning wanting to get the guys and then the girls better at their craft of basketball."
Brown took over the women's program during the 1999-2000 season and led the Eagles to five 20-win seasons, three NCAA tournament appearances, two berths in the Women's National Invitational Tournament, three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season championships and a then-conference record 49-game winning streak against MEAC opponents.

Redskins, free-agent CB Norman agree to five-year, $75M deal
Free-agent cornerback Josh Norman has agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed Friday. The deal is for five years and is worth $75million. Norman, 28, has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Norman, who was named first-team All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career this past season, had career highs in interceptions (four), defensive touchdowns (two), forced fumbles (three), fumble recoveries (two) and passes defended (19). The Panthers were expected to retain Norman this offseason because they used the franchise tag on the cornerback before the start of free agency. In a stunning decision, Carolina rescinded the franchise tag on Wednesday because both sides were far apart on a long-term deal, immediately making Norman a free agent.
The Redskins sent defensive coordinator Joe Barry and defensive backs coach Perry Fewell to Atlanta, where Norman lives, on owner Dan Snyder's private jet to pick up Norman, agent Ryan Williams and Norman's family Friday. They arrived at Redskins Park around 1:45 p.m. in a visit that lasted roughly four hours before reaching an agreement.
