The Baltimore Brigade held off the visiting Washington Valor for a win in their Arena Football League season opener Friday night, 61-56. Quarterback Randy Hippeard, the league's reigning Most Valuable Player, led the Brigade to a 14-0 lead at Royal Farms Arena. Hippeard gave the Brigade a 40-28 lead entering halftime with a last-second scramble for a score near the goal line. Top-ranked and undefeated Stony Brook built a five-goal lead at the half and held off visiting Johns Hopkins for a 15-7 non-conference women's lacrosse victory Friday night. Stony Brook (13-0) was led by Kylie Ohlmiller, who finished with six goals and five assists. Shannon Fitzgerald led the Blue Jays (8-6) with three goals and two assists. ... Ravens QB Flacco, wifewelcome their fifth child

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is going to have a full complement of wide receivers, tight ends and running backs to throw to in the offseason. On Friday afternoon, Flacco announced on Twitter the birth of son Thomas Kevin, his fifth child with wife Dana. They married in June 2011. Thomas, born April 6, joins the Flacco lineup of 5-year old Stephen, 4-year old Daniel, 3-year-old Francis and 1-year old Evelyn. Flacco, 33, just finished his 10th season with the Ravens.
