The daughter of Indian Charlie now has won three of six starts and $485,000. Been Here Before was second and Wide Country Stakes winner Gypsy Judy was third. Bridget's Big Luvy, trained by Jeremiah Englehart, won the $100,000 Private Terms Stakes. A Maryland-bred son of Tiz Wonderful coming off a fifth-place finish in Gulfstream Park's Hutcheson Stakes and equipped with blinkers for the first time, the 3-year-old colt crossed the finish line under jockey Angel Cruz 21/2 lengths in front of Bodhisattva, covering the 11/8 miles in 1:51.92. Net Gain finished third. Page McKenney, a 5-year-old gelding making his second start of the year and first since Feb. 14, drew away from four others down the stretch en route to a four-length victory in the $100,000 Harrison E. Johnson Memorial. A winner of 10 of 19 starts since being claimed by trainer Mary Eppler in July 2013, Page McKenney and jockey Horacio Karamanos went the 11/8 miles in 1:50.88. Eddy Gourmet overtook pacesetter Turf Craze entering the stretch and finished with a 73/4-length victory in the $100,000 Conniver. The Hugh McMahon-trained 5-year-old mare, equipped with blinkers for the first time, finished the 7 furlongs in 1:23.50 under jockey Sheldon Russell.
College wrestling: Ohio State freshman Kyle Snyder, a Woodbine native who attended Good Counsel, finished second in the 197-pound class of the NCAA championships in St. Louis. Snyder (30-4), the fourth overall seed, was pinned by No. 3 seed Kyven Gadson (30-1) of Iowa State in 4:24. The Buckeyes won the overall team title, ending Penn State's run of four straight national titles.
Men's college basketball: Johns Hopkins' Bill Nelson was named All-Middle Atlantic Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3hoops.com. Senior forward George Bugarinovic and senior guard Jimmy Hammer received all-region honors from the organizations.
College softball: In its inaugural Big Ten Conference game, Maryland rallied from a 10-run deficit to defeat host Iowa, 15-14, on Friday night. The Terps (18-11), who finished with a season-high 19 hits, trailed 12-2 after the third inning following an 11-run frame by the Hawkeyes (9-21, 0-1).
College gymnastics: Maryland recorded a season-high team total of 196.075 en route to a seventh-place finish in the Big Ten Conference championships.
