The seventh-seeded Colonials (16-16) overcame Mount Saint Mary's leads of as many as 13 points and travel to meet NEC regular-season champion Wagner (22-8) in a semifinal today. Junior Robinson led the Mount with 15 points.
Women: Bowie State (19-8) opened overtime with a 5-0 run and won 72-64 over Fayetteville State (16-10) in an Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association quarterfinal in Charlotte, N.C. Kyaja Williams (Western) led the Bulldogs with 16 points. ... Alexis Gray scored 19 points to lead host Loyola Maryland (9-20, 7-11 Patriot) to a 65-52 victory over Boston University (10-18, 5-13) in a regular-season finale. Loyola clinched the sixth seed in the conference tournament. ... Senior guard Taylor Dunham sank seven 3-pointers in scoring 23 points as Navy routed American, 76-49.
Men's awards: Johns Hopkins junior Daniel Vila was named the inaugural recipient of the Centennial Conference's Defensive Player of the Year award and freshman Conner Delaney was named the Rookie of the Year. The Baltimore Sun has been recognized in the 2017 Associated Press Sports Editors national contest for having a Top 10 website and a Top 10 special section (Orioles season preview). The Sun competes in the largest circulation category: 175,000 and above. The awards were announced this week at the organization's winter conference in St. Petersburg, Fla. It's the fourth year in a row The Sun has been recognized as Top 10 in the special sections category. It's the first time for the website honor. Pine Ridge to host BMGC'swinter scramble golf event
Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation, also known as Baltimore's Classic Five, will host the fourth in its series of scramble golf outings this winter, the Jack Frost Scramble on Saturday at Pine Ridge Golf Course. The Jack Frost Scramble will be played using the 18-hole scramble format, featuring a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Registration for the Jack Frost Scramble outing is open. A $240 per team (four golfers) price includes green fees, carts, breakfast, lunch and prizes. Space is limited to the first 30 teams. If golfers want to sign up as a single or twosome, contact the Pine Ridge pro shop at 410-252-1408. They will be placed on a waiting list and paired with a group if needed. Men's college hockey: The United Collegiate Hockey Conference named three Stevenson players to the All-UCHC teams, including senior Jacob Caffrey who was named the Goaltender of the Year. Caffrey was named to the first team while senior Doug Rose made the second team and freshman Aaron Murray was made the rookie team.
Women's college hockey: Stevenson senior Chelsea Blackburn was named to the All-UCHC second team.
College softball: Towson senior Megan Dejter and junior Nicole Stockinger were named the Colonial Athletic Association softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.
