Digest: Darley's career-high 31 not enough as UMBC men fall to UMass-Lowell, 96-92

Logan Primerano scored 14 of his career-high 29 points in the last 4:17 and UMass-Lowell (11-15, 7-6 America East) edged host UMBC, 96-92, on Sunday. Primerano, a freshman, was 16-for-17 from the free throw line, including 12-for-13 in the last four minutes. The River Hawks led by nine with 7:33 to go, but the Retrievers (6-21, 2-10) used a 12-2 run to go up one with 5:31 left. Darley had a career-best 31 points, Rodney Elliott scored 20, and Jairus Lyles added 16 for UMBC.

Mike Morsell scored a career-high 34 points on 11-for-17 shooting from the field to lead Towson past William & Mary, 99-82, on Saturday, creating a three-way tie for third place in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Women's Division I: Pandora Wilson scored a career high 28 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds and Taylor McCarley had 30 points to lead host UMBC (15-10, 6-6 America East) to a 68-52 victory over UMass-Lowell (4-21, 1-12). Emily Russo (Glenelg) had seven rebounds and four steals for UMBC. … Dominque Johnson scored 18 points and Sianni Martin added 12 off the bench to lift host Towson (6-18, 3-10 Colonial Athletic Association) to a 62-51 win over College of Charleston (9-14, 4-8) and end an eight-game losing streak. The game was tied at 16 at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers held the Cougars to 9 points in the second quarter to take a 32-25 lead at the half. Charleston shot 34.4 percent from the field and was 4-for-21 from beyond the arc. Brittany Tarr and Raven Bankston added 10 points each for Towson.

Class 1A, 2A state indoor championships postponed today

With a wintry forecast predicted today, the Class 1A and Class 2A state indoor track championships have been postponed. No make up date has been announced. The meet, scheduled to be run at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, was to have been the first of two days of track championships scheduled for the venue. It was to have begun at 11 a.m. because schools are closed for Presidents' Day.

With a wintry forecast on tap for Monday, the Class 1A and Class 2A state indoor track championships have been postponed. No make up date has been announced.

The Class 3A and Class 4A finals are set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. With a winter storm watch in effect for Western Maryland and a winter weather advisory for other areas of the state, some school systems canceled after-school activities today, so the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association postponed the meet.

Undefeated Nyquist to make 3-year-old debut

Undefeated Nyquist, last year's 2-year-old Eclipse Award winner, makes his highly anticipated 3-year-old debut in the $200,000 San Vicente Stakes today at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif. The 3-year-old colt will take on five rivals in the 7-furlong, Grade 2 race that will be Nyquist's first since he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on Oct. 31 at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky. Nyquist is trained by Doug O'Neill, ridden by Mario Gutierrez and owned by J. Paul Reddam, all of whom teamed with I'll Have Another, who won the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness before getting injured on the eve of the Belmont Stakes.

Terps: Maryland's wrestling team (5-12, 1-8 Big Ten Conference) spilt a pair of home duals on Sunday, falling to Wisconsin, 25-12, before earning a 31-9 victory over George Mason (7-12) in the second annual "Beauty and the Beast" match alongside women's gymnastics. Macey Roberts set a personal best with a 9.800 in the vault for the gymnastic's team, but the Terps fell, 194.850-194.425, to Rutgers.
