Wheeler Baker scored 14 points, Sam Rowley added 12 and Albany cruised to a 69-55 win over visiting UMBC on Sunday. Rowley went 4-for-4 from the field and hit all four of his free throws. Dallas Ennema and Ray Sanders added 11 points apiece as the Great Danes (12-7, 7-0 America East Conference) extended their winning streak to seven. Albany broke away with an 11-0 burst capped by Baker's 3-pointer midway through the first half to make it 14-4 and carried a 35-22 advantage into the break. Early in the second half, Greig Stire's bucket stretched the Great Danes' lead to 39-28, and the margin never fell below double figures again. Retrievers junior forward Cody Joyce led all scorers with 16 points. Freshman guard Malcolm Brent added 12 for UMBC (3-17, 1-6), and senior guard Wayne Sparrow (St. Frances) had 10. UMBC was 12-for-14 from the free-throw line and shot 43.9 percent from the field. Albany finished shooting 46.9 percent overall.

Big second-half run dooms Towson in women's hoops
A 17-1 run to start the second half gave host UNC Wilmington a lead it would not relinquish in a 71-63 win over Towson. Redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen led the Tigers with 21 points. She also had 11 rebounds for her Colonial Athletic Association-leading 10th doubledouble of the season. Despite winning the rebounding battle 34-30, Towson (8-12, 4-4) allowed the Seahawks (8-11, 4-4) to shoot 51 percent from the field. The Tigers were 39 percent overall for the game and just 27.3 percent in the second half. With Towson leading 37-30 at halftime, UNC Wilmington sophomore guard Brie Mobley hit a jumper 19 seconds into the second half to start their decisive run.
More: UMBC junior guard Capree Garner scored in double digits for the 19th time this season, but the Retrievers struggled shooting from the field in a 56-42 loss to visiting Maine. Garner finished with a team-best 13 points, but UMBC shot just 31.4 percent overall, including 13.3 percent from beyond the arc, as it fell to 6-14 overall and 1-6 in America East Conference play. Junior forward Liz Wood and sophomore guard Sigi Koizar combined to score 28 points to help the Black Bears improve to 14-6, 6-1.
College wrestling: Redshirt junior Lou Mascola continued his strong recent form with a win at 157 pounds, but Maryland (5-11, 0-5 Big Ten Conference) lost to visiting No. 4 Ohio State, 31-9. Freshman Kyle Snyder Synderof Woodbine won a 17-9 major decision for the Buckeyes (9-3, 5-1).

Women's college bowling: UMES senior Mariana Alvarado was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Bowler of the Week.
Lacrosse: UMBC women's coach Amy (Appelt) Slade will be inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame at the Huntington Hilton Hotel in Holtsville, N.Y. on Feb. 7. Slade won three state championships and was a four-time All-American at Garden City High School before starring at Virginia and competing for Team USA.
