No. 6 Mount Carmel defeated visiting No. 9 Calvert Hall in double overtime Sunday, 93-90, for its 10th straight win in boys basketball. Will Jenkins led the Cougars (17-6, 9-3 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting, one of five players on the team with at least 15 points. Montez Mathis had 16 points, including the game-tying field goal as time ran out at the end of the first overtime period. Frank Webb (17 points), Terry Nolan (17) and Brian Jefferson (15) also helped power a Mount Carmel offense that shot 69 percent from the field and 70 percent from beyond the arc. Justin Gorham and Drew Edwards had 22 points apiece for the Cardinals (17-5, 8-4). Nico Clareth (13 points), Evan Phoenix (12) and TJ Duckett (11) also scored in double figures. Mount Carmel led 41-36 at halftime, and the game was tied at 75 at the end of regulation and at 85 at the end of the first overtime.
College wrestling: Maryland lost, 24-11, to visiting No. 22 Rutgers. The Terps (5-10, 0-4 Big Ten Conference) fell behind 14-0 early before winning at 157, 197 and 285 pounds against the Scarlet Knights (10-4, 1-4)Spencer Myers.
