William Adala Moto added 17 points, John Davis 13 and Byron Hawkins 11 for the Tigers (5-3).
Marko Gujanicic had 12 and Otis Livingston II 10 for the Patriots (3-5). Shevon Thompson grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Tigers led 30-28 at halftime, then opened the second half on a 10-0 run that started with a 3-pointer from Hawkins.
The Patriots cut the lead to 45-40 with 11:58 left on a 7-0 run in which Gujanicic scored five points. The Tigers responded by outscoring the Patriots 21-7, including 14 points from Morsell, over the next seven minutes to lead 66-47 with 4:18 remaining. The lead reached 23 points with a minute to go.
This was the 42nd time the programs have met and the first time Towson has beaten the Patriots on their home floor since 1992.
Navy 65, Penn 59: Tim Abruzzo and Shawn Anderson scored 11 points apiece and the Midshipmen (7-2) hung on to win their seventh straight.
It's the longest winning streak for Navy since 2009.
Penn used a 7-0 run to cut Navy's lead to 57-55 with 2:11 left. Darien Nelson-Henry's free throw with 1:03 remaining pulled the Quakers to within one, the closest they came in the second half.
Anderson answered with a layup and hit two free throws with 16 seconds left for a four-point lead.
Wagner 62, Morgan State 61: Romone Saunders made the first of two foul shots with three seconds to play as the host Seahawks (3-2) beat the Bears (2-5).
After Phillip Carr's 3-pointer made it 61-57 for Morgan, Wagner outscored the Bears, 5-0, in the last two minutes.
Dwaun Anderson made two free throws and Michael Carey hit a layup to tie it at 61 with just under a minute left. In the final minute, Carr missed a 3-pointer and, after Saunders' go-ahead free throw, Clive Vaughan rebounded the missed second foul shot but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Forsythe was 9-for-11 and grabbed eight rebounds for Akron. Isaiah Johnson had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Antino Jackson added 10 points despite 3-of-14 shooting.
Bowling Green 72, UMBC 64: Spencer Parker scored 20 points and had six rebounds to help lead the host Falcons (5-2) past the Retrievers (1-7). The Falcons have won four straight after a two-game losing streak.
UMBC led by as many as seven in the first half and took a 33-29 lead into the locker room. But the Falcons stormed back in the second half and took a double-digit lead on a 3-point play by Parker with 4:24 left.
The Retrievers' Rodney Elliot (John Carroll) hit one of two at the line to cut Bowling Green's lead to 67-63 with just more than a minute left, but UMBC got no closer. Ismail Ali hit a pair of free throws and Parker had a 3-point play to put the game away.
Joe Sherburne scored 19 points for UMBC, which has lost four straight.
