Delante Jones scored 18 points, Andrija Matic made the game-winning free throw with one second left, and host American beat Loyola Maryland, 67-66, in the season finale for both teams Saturday. Each school now heads into the Patriot League tournament, which will begin Tuesday.

Jesse Reed hit two free throws, which gave the Eagles (11-18, 9-9) a 66-61 lead with 42 seconds to go. But Andre Walker hit a 3-pointer for the Greyhounds (9-20, 8-10) on its next possession and added a pair at the line 20 seconds later to tie it at 66 with 13 seconds left.


Morgan State uses memorable comeback to edge Coppin State in overtime

Trailing by seven with 47 seconds left to play, the Bears scored eight of the final nine points in regulation, including Andre Horne's 3-pointer from the corner with one second left to force overtime, before pulling out a 74-72 win before an announced 2,887 on homecoming at Coppin State.

Jones then missed a jumper, but Matic corralled the rebound and was fouled. He hit one of his two free throws to seal the win.

Reed had 14 points and seven rebounds for American.

Walker led the Greyhounds with 25 points. Franz Rassman added 13.

New Hampshire 79, UMBC 68: Jaleen Smith hit a key jump shot with just over a minute left, then made five of six free throws as the host Wildcats (18-11, 10-5 America East) held off the Retrievers (7-24, 3-13) in UMBC's season finale.

Jairus Lyles scored 27 points — including a jumper that pulled UMBC to within 67-64 with just over a minute remaining — and set the school's sophomore-season scoring record with 460 points. The Retrievers (7-24, 3-13), as the eighth seed, travel to top-seeded Stony Brook on Wednesday for the conference tournament.

Mids will go crawling into league tournament

Senior guard Chris Hass scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack as Bucknell beat Navy, 77-73, on Saturday before an announced crowd of 2,909 at Alumni Hall. Senior forward Dom Hoffman totaled 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Bison, who captured their second consecutive outright regular season championship in the Patriot League.

Bucknell 77, Navy 73: Chris Hass scored 13 points, Nana Foulland added 12 more and the visiting Bison (17-12, 14-4) captured the Patriot League regular-season title.

Leading by 10 midway through the second half, Bucknell had to hold off a Navy rally that twice cut the margin to two, with the Midshipmen (18-13, 9-9) getting a 3-pointer from Zach Fong to trail 73-71 with 1:22 left and then 75-73 a half minute later on Will Kelly's jumper.

Fong finished with 17 points to lead five Mids in double figures.

UMES 74, Delaware State 65: Dominique Elliott scored 20 points, Thomas Rivera scored 14 while Ryan Andino and Derrico Peck each contributed 12 to lead the host Hawks (9-21, 6-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) past the Hornets (7-22, 5-9).

UMES ended a five-game losing streak.

St. Francis (N.Y.) 59, Mount St. Mary's 49: Antonio Jenifer made two free throws and added a dunk to help the host Terriers (15-16, 11-7 Northeast Conference) close out the regular season with four straight wins.

Jenifer also grabbed 13 rebounds in the tight, low-scoring game. Yunus Hopkinson added 12 points and Andy Fall had 10 points and nine rebounds for St. Francis.

Freshman Elijah Long scored 16 — coming within four of his career best — to lead the Mountaineers (13-18, 10-8).



Coppin State 82, Morgan State 38: Amber Griffin scored a game-high 21 points to power the host Eagles (12-15, 9-6 MEAC) past the Bears (12-15, 10-5).

Coppin State opened with a 22-8 run in the first quarter and never looked back. Braennan Farrar led Morgan State with 15 points.

UMES 54, Delaware State 49: Ciani Byrom scored a game-high 19 points to lead the host Hawks (11-16, 9-6 MEAC) past the Hornets (8-19, 5-9).

The win marks the fifth straight for UMES.

Loyola Maryland 55, American 50: Colleen Marshall scored 19 points to lead the visiting Greyhounds (13-15, 10-7 Patriot) past the Eagles (6-23, 4-13).

Loyola's defense limited American to eight points in the first quarter and nine in the second quarter.

Mount St. Mary's 57, St. Francis (N.Y.) 40: Jessica Harris scored 15 points and the visiting Mountaineers (9-19, 7-10) beat the Terriers (7-21, 4-13) to clinch a playoff spot in the Northeast Conference tournament.

The playoff berth makes the fifth straight and seventh overall under coach Bryan Whitten.

The Mount hosts top-seeded Sacred Heart in the regular-season finale Monday at 7 p.m.

Bucknell 64, Navy 52: The host Bison (22-6, 16-1 Patriot) won their eighth straight. The Mids fell to 15-13, 9-8.
