Malcolm Miller scored 17 points and sandwiched four free throws around a key rebound in the last 25 seconds to give Holy Cross a 63-60 basketball win over Loyola Maryland on Wednesday night.
The Crusaders (12-15, 7-10 Patriot League) led throughout the second half before Franz Rassman's two free throws at 38 seconds put the Greyhounds (11-17, 7-10) on top, 60-59.
Holy Cross regained the lead on Miller's first two free throws and after a Loyola miss with two seconds left, Miller grabbed the rebound and was fouled with one second left, enabling him to secure the win.
Justin Burrell added 11 points for Holy Cross, which shot 51.3 percent (20-for-39) and made 20 of 27 free throws.
Tyler Hubbard led the Greyhounds, who were 11 of 17 from the foul line, with 17 points. Rassman and Cam Gregory scored 12 points apiece.
Albany 67, UMBC 49: Sam Rowley had 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Great Danes (20-8, 14-1) beat the host Retrievers (4-24, 2-13) to stay two games ahead of Vermont atop the America East Conference.
Evan Singletary and Peter Hooley added 15 points apiece for the Great Danes (20-8, 14-1), who shot 49.1 percent from the field, though only 57.1 percent from the foul line.
Albany led 34-22 at the break and outrebounded UMBC 39-23 for the game.
Cody Joyce led the Retrievers (4-24, 2-13) with 14 points and five rebounds.
William & Mary 65, Towson 50: The visiting Tigers made a big run in the second half to pull within five points, but the Tribe closed the game on a 10-0 run for the win.
William & Mary (18-10, 12-5 Colonial Athletic Association) led by 23 points with 14:50 remaining.
Towson (12-18, 5-12 CAA) began its comeback with a 3-pointer by Alex Gavrilovic that sparked a 16-6 run and brought the Tigers within 51-41 on Four McGlynn's 3-pointer from the top of the key.
Towson's Timajh Parker-Rivera followed a basket in the paint by Eddie Keith II with a pair of free throws. After Terry Tarpey, who had a game-high 24 points, scored to give the Tribe an eight-point lead, McGlynn made his third 3-pointer of the half to pull Towson to within 55-50 with 3:28 to play.
But the Tribe scored the final 10 points of the game.
The Tigers came out strong in the first half as they hit five of their first seven shots and opened an 11-6 lead 2:50 into the game. The Tigers went 0-for-26 from the field for the rest of the half and the Tribe had a 28-15 lead at the break.
Towson shot 12-of-24 (50 percent) in the second half. The Tigers made four of 10 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes.
McGlynn led the Tigers offense with 13 points. Byron Hawkins added nine points, John Davis eight and Mike Morsell seven. Davis, Parker-Rivera and Gavrilovic each had six rebounds as the Tigers outrebounded the Tribe 42-30.
Towson will end the regular season Saturday against Delaware at SECU Arena. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Before the game, the Tigers will honor seniors Jamel Flash and Gavrilovic.
American 68, Navy 49: The visiting Midshipmen (11-18, 7-10 Patriot League) got outscored 34-17 in the first half and fell to the Eagles (15-14, 8-9).
John Schoof had a game-high 25 points for American, which led from start to finish and by as many as 19 points. Shawn Anderson and Worth Smith each scored 14 points for Navy.
Gettysburg 53, McDaniel 45: The host Bullets (15-11) beat the Green Terror (14-12) back to back.
Gettysburg won 60-52 in the regular-season finale and in the first round of the Centennial Conference championship. Andrew Merlo had 14 points for McDaniel.
Stevenson 68, Hood 53: Sean Farr (Dunbar) had 16 points to lead the host Mustangs (18-8) past the Blazers (14-12) in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal.
Stevenson will host Alvernia at 1p.m. in Saturday's championship.
Women
American 41, Navy 29: Jen Dumiak scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Eagles (20-8, 15-2 Patriot League) past the host Mids (15-13, 9-8).
The win clinched the regular-season title and the top seed in the conference championship. Sarah Reilly led Navy with six points.
The Mids got within a point early in the second half, but a 10-0 run by the Eagles pushed the margin to double digits. Navy never got closer than five points down the stretch, as American pulled away for the win.
Holy Cross 65, Loyola Maryland 37: Nai Brown had 11 points in a losing effort as the host Greyhounds (7-21, 5-12 Patriot) fell to the Crusaders (14-16, 10-7).
Loyola Maryland was outscored 28-15 in the first half.
Stevenson 63, Lebanon Valley 47: Sara Tarbert (16 points, career-high 18 rebounds) and Ty Bender (16 points) led the way as the host Mustangs (22-3) beat the Dutchmen (18-9) in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal.
Stevenson will make its second appearance in a conference championship game since the 2005-06 season. The Mustangs will host second-seeded Albright in Saturday's championship.
