State hoops roundup (Feb. 4): Mount men fall to LIU Brooklyn

Martin Hermannsson scored 21 points, Jerome Frink had 19 and host LIU Brooklyn beat Mount St. Mary's, 77-74, on Thursday night.

Hermannsson shot 5-for-11 from the field and made nine of 10 free throws. Frink added a game-high nine rebounds and finished 7-for-14 from the field. Joel Hernandez scored 14 points for LIU Brooklyn (11-11, 5-6 Northeast Conference).


BK Ashe scored 21 points and Junior Robinson had 20 for Mount St. Mary's (10-14, 7-4).

LIU Brooklyn took the lead with 17 minutes remaining and led the rest of the way. A dunk by Hernandez stretched the Blackbirds' lead to 69-62 with two minutes left.

Ashe made a layup and added a 3-pointer to pull the Mountain Hawks to 76-74 with nine seconds to go. Hermannsson made a free throw with five seconds left to seal the win.

College of Charleston 65, Towson 47: Jarrell Brantley scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and the host Cougars (14-8, 6-5 Colonial Athletic Association) ended a three-game winning streak by the Tigers (16-8, 7-4).

Marquise Pointer made three 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Charleston, which finished the game on a 14-0 run. The Cougars shot 8-for-17 from 3-point range, or 47 percent.

Mike Morsell scored 13 points and Timajh Parker-Rivera 11 for the Tigers.


Boston University 51, Navy 49: With just six-tenths of a second left on the clock, Sarah Hope made the game-winning shot off an inbound pass from Troi Melton as the host Terriers (2-19, 2-8 Patriot League) beat the Midshipmen (10-11, 4-6).

Payton Hauck had stolen an inbound pass and made a jumper to give Boston University a 49-47 lead with 24 seconds left.
