McDaniel interim job goes to coordinator Bartolain

McDaniel promoted Aaron Bartolain to interim head football coach Thursday and began a national search for Tim Keating's successor.

Keating, 58, stepped down last Friday after 110 victories, seven conference championships and five NCAA Divisioni III playoff appearances over 19 seasons.

The Green Terror finished 2-8 this season and hasn't had a winning season since its last Centennial Conference championship in 2004. The school earned at least a part of each Centennial title from 1997 to 2002.

Bartolain has spent the past 11 seasons on Keating's staff, the past four as offensive coordinator. He oversees McDaniel's physical training regimen and is the team's recruiting coordinator.

A 2001 graduate of Western Maryland, now McDaniel, he was a four-year starter and Centennial Defensive Player of the Year in 2000.

Towson's West honored

Towson freshman tailback Terrance West (Northwestern) was named a second-team selection on the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision All-America team selected by the Associated Press.

The second-leading rusher in the Colonial Athletic Association, West ran for 1,294 yards on 194 carries (6.7-yard average) in 11 games. He was 12th in the FCS with 117.6 rushing yards per game.

West, who led the FCS with 29 touchdowns scored, is the only freshman on the AP All-America teams.

Towson releases schedule

Towson, which was the most-improved Division I team in the NCAA this season, going from 1-10 to 9-3, released its 2012 schedule, which includes two games against Football Bowl Subdivision teams for the first time in school history.

The Tigers will visit Kent State on Sept. 1 and LSU, currently No. 1 in the nation, on Sept.29. The school has played one FBS opponent each of the past four seasons.

The home opener will be Sept. 15 against William & Mary at 7 p.m.

Four of Towson's five home games will begin at 7, with the home finale Nov. 10 against Rhode Island at 3:30 p.m.

Honor for Fitzpatrick

Marist senior wide receiver Kevin Fitzpatrick (Mount St. Joseph) will play in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The game showcases the nation's top Football Championship Subdivision players.

In his four-year career at Marist, Fitzpatrick finished with 97 catches for 1,232 yards and eight touchdowns.

In 11 games this season, he caught a team-high 49 passes for 6-1 yards and five touchdowns.
