The Caves Valley Foundation and Constellation Foundation on Monday announced a $750,000 donation to The First Tee of Baltimore for the funding of a new golf learning center at Forest Park Golf Course.
More than 125 business and community leaders, including Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and First Tee executives, including CEO Joe Louis Barrow Jr. — son of boxing legend Joe Louis — were on hand for the announcement at Caves Valley Golf Club.
Champions Tour pro Jim Thorpe, who played fullback at Morgan State, honed his golf game at Forest Park and other city courses in the early 1970s. Forest Park is one of the city's Classic Five courses, along with Clifton Park, Mount Pleasant, Pine Ridge and Carroll Park.
The First Tee program, aimed at enriching the lives of young people through golf, reaches all 50 states and four countries; more than 3.1 million youths participate.
