Outlook: The Blast opened its Major Arena Soccer League season with a sound 7-4 home win over the visiting Chicago Mustangs last Saturday and will try to make it two in a row against a team it has plenty of success against in the past.

Last week, the Blast got two goals and two assists from Vini Dantas and a strong defensive effort in the second half to secure the win. Goalie William Vanzela finished with seven saves, including three in a shaky second quarter with the Blast holding a 3-1 lead.

Syracuse was 12-8 last season, finishing second to the Blast in the Eastern Division and qualifying for the playoffs. The Silver Knights had no success against the Blast, losing all four regular-season games. Offensively, they are led by Kenardo Forbes, Slavisa Ubiparipovic and Bo Jelovac with goalie Bryan O'Quinn the anchor in back.

The Blast signed three players this week, including local product Geaton Caltabiano, who played at Mount St. Joseph, Loyola Maryland and UMBC. The first 1,000 fans ages 14 and under will receive a William Vanzela replica T-shirt.
