With just rookies backups at halfback, Steelers sign veteran Ben Tate

Desperate times can bring desperate measures and these days they bring halfback Ben Tate to the Steelers.

Signing the veteran is more indication Mike Tomlin does not expect Le'Veon Bell to play Saturday night in their playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field.

Bell's knee injury had left two relatively inexperienced rookies at halfback: Undrafted Josh Harris, who has nine carries in the five games he has been on their roster, and third-round scatback Dri Archer, who has 10 carries all season.
