Blast rout Tropics, 10-1, in Sunday matinee, stay unbeaten at home in MASL

Tony Donatelli had two goals and three assists to lead the Blast to a 10-1 victory over the Florida Tropics in a Major Arena Soccer League game Sunday afternoon before an announced 3,429 at Towson University’s SECU Arena.

Semipro soccer will come to the area with FC Baltimore joining the National Professional Soccer League.

William Vanzela made 13 saves for the Blast (5-1), who improved to 5-0 at home this season. Daniel Peruzzi scored twice in the opening half, and Andrew Hoxie and Jereme Raley added goals to give the Blast a 4-0 halftime lead.

The Blast scored the first five goals of the second half, with Donatelli converting twice and Jamie Thomas, Marco Nascimento and Nelson Santana each adding a goal.

Raphael Schlemper scored for the Tropics with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter to end the run, but Adriano Dos Santos added a goal for the Blast, who also got two assists from Hoxie. Florida finished the game with a 25-24 edge in shots.

The Blast took a 1 1/2-game lead in the Eastern Division over Florida (4-3), which got 13 saves from Piotr Sliwa.

The teams will play again Friday at 7:35 p.m. in Lakeland, where the Tropics handed the Blast their only loss this season, 5-4 on Nov. 18.
