Win over Syracuse men’s lacrosse helps Albany leapfrog Maryland to No. 2 in latest media poll

For only the second time in 16 meetings, the Albany men’s lacrosse team defeated in-state rival Syracuse, and the Great Danes did so in convincing fashion via a 15-3 thrashing. That score clearly persuaded the members who vote weekly in the Maverik media poll to vault Albany (1-0) from No. 3 to No. 2 over Maryland (3-0).

The reigning NCAA champion Terps went 2-0 last week, but nearly wasted a seven-goal advantage before holding off High Point, 16-14, on Saturday. Duke (4-0) remained at No. 1 after rallying for a 15-12 win against Denver (1-1), which dropped from No. 3 to No. 4.
