The Albany men’s lacrosse team was the biggest beneficiary of Duke’s 10-9 upset loss to Penn on Saturday, moving into the top spot in the latest Maverik Inside Lacrosse media poll released Monday morning.
The Great Danes (2-0) — who easily dispatched Drexel, 18-5 — moved up one spot from No. 2. Reigning NCAA champion Maryland (4-0) rose from No. 3 to No. 2, and the Blue Devils (4-1) slipped to No. 3.
Virginia (4-0) rose to No. 4 from No. 6 after outlasting No. 20 Princeton, 18-15, and North Carolina moved from No. 12 to No. 10 after rallying to defeat No. 18 Johns Hopkins, 13-11. Army West Point (3-1) dropped out of the top 10, slipping from No. 9 to No. 13 after losing 11-10 in triple overtime to No. 12 Syracuse.
Loyola Maryland (2-1) rose one spot to No. 9 after defeating Lafayette, 19-5. Towson fell out of the top 20 after losing to Georgetown, 12-10.
