Hawks' Malcolm Delaney (Towson Catholic) donates over 400 coats to Baltimore schoolchildren

Before he made first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference at Virginia Tech and before he became a regular in the Atlanta Hawks’ rotation, Malcolm Delaney was just another Baltimore student suffering through poor building conditions.

No heat in classrooms during the winter. No air-conditioning available in the summer. Days of school lost to both.

So as the city’s latest bad news about school heating issues filtered out of Baltimore this winter, Delaney decided to follow the lead of former NFL linebacker Aaron Maybin and lend a hand.

On Monday, Delaney donated over 400 new coats for students in city schools, including Gardenville Elementary, which he attended.

"As far as what he's doing, being blessed to be in the NBA, I talked to him about understanding that there are many people who couldn't get to this point,” Delaney’s father, Vincent Sr., told WBAL-TV. “So one of your obligations is to make sure that you support those people who couldn't make it and just do what you can to help out.”

Delaney is averaging 6.3 points and 2.6 assists in 19.2 minutes per game this season.
