Brigade looks to end losing streak with Gladiators at Royal Farms Arena

Cleveland Gladiators (1-5) vs. Brigade (1-4)

When: Saturday, 7 p.m.

Where: Royal Farms Arena

TV: CBS Sports Network

Tickets: 667-930-0200, or

Outlook: The Brigade's best hope for ending its three-game losing streak is that it faces the one team it has defeated this season. The Gladiators, the only team in the Arena Football League with a record worse than those of the Brigade and Washington Valor, fell to the Brigade in Cleveland on April 16, 52-49, in quarterback Shane Carden's first start. A midweek trade did little to help the Gladiators' chances of revenge. On Tuesday, the Brigade acquired wide receiver-returner Brandon Thompkins and quarterback Shane Boyd from Cleveland in exchange for future considerations and a claim-order position. The AFL's Playmaker of the Year and a first-team All-Arena wide receiver last season, Thompkins has 24 catches for 282 yards and four touchdowns in 2017 after missing two games because of injury. But he will be unavailable this weekend after not reporting in time, a blow to the team's depleted receiving corps. Former Raven LaQuan Williams (Maryland, Poly) is out with a leg injury, and Reggie Gray has missed the past two games with an injury. This is just the second home game for the expansion Brigade, which is giving out a can cooler to the first 4,000 fans at Royal Farms Arena. An announced 5,915 were in attendance for the team's May 7 game against the Tampa Bay Storm; only Cleveland's first game against the Brigade has drawn fewer in a league game this year.
