Despite the presence of junior Andrew Wascavage and sophomore Jake Graves, Travis Love has cemented his place as Towson's starting goalkeeper.
Love, a fifth-year senior who started in 2010 and 2011, has gone 10-15 as the starter, and coach Shawn Nadelen said the Westminster native and Winters Mill graduate has performed well enough in the offseason to deserve to start in the cage when the Tigers open the season at Jacksonville on Feb. 11.
"Travis has definitely put himself in the best position," Nadelen said. "Obviously, he's proven himself the past couple of years as a starter. I think he has a pretty solid track record. He'd like to have a few more games back where he had opportunities to make some pretty big saves for us, but he's doing very well and he's right there again to kind of lead the defense and step in as the starting goalie. [Sophomore] Jake Graves and [junior] Andrew Wascavage are right there, and I think that's why Travis has been so sharp. Those guys are pushing him to continue to be great and challenge himself to make as many saves as possible."
While Love returned, a pair of seniors in defenseman Michael Landy and attackman Stephen Norris did not. Landy made 13 starts last season, and Norris registered seven goals and one assist in 12 games last year.
Asked if the pair was missing from the team roster due to injury, Nadelen said, "They are not [injured]. They quit the team in the fall."
