Goalkeeper Andrew Wascavage has started in each of Towson's first two contests, but coach Shawn Nadelen said Thursday afternoon that he is considering playing the junior and senior Travis Love in Saturday's game at No. 17 Loyola.
"I think I'm actually going to split the guys," Nadelen said. "I haven't fully decided on that 100 percent, but I'm leaning towards starting Andrew Wascavage and bringing Travis in for the second half. Just the way that Travis played last week and has continued to play just as good if not better this week and Andrew has continued to stay consistent, I just think I've got to get both of them their fair share. It's a road I really haven't gone down much in my coaching career, but I think if we've got two strong goalies and they can give us 100 percent for a full game, I've got to think that hopefully it helps us out."
Nadelen did say that he reserved the right to keep Wascavage in for the second half if he's playing well against the Greyhounds.
Love, a Westminster native and Winters Mill graduate, is a two-year starter who was suspended for the season opener for violating an unspecified team rule. Wascavage has posted a 11.00 goals-against average and a .463 save percentage thus far.
That's why Nadelen isn't worried about the defense's familiarity with the goalies.
"[B]asically in practice, both Travis and Andrew are getting half of the time in front of our top defensive guys," Nadalen said. "With the team already being familiar with Travis over the last two years, I don't think there will be too much difference there. And with Andrew having two games under his belt, I think he's established a pretty good rapport with the guys also. So I don't think that will be too different as far as the chemistry. We're all communicating the same things, we're all using the same terminology. So hopefully, that shouldn't be too much of an issue for us."
