Editor's note: Towson junior running back Terrance West declared early for the NFL draft after setting school records with 4,584 rushing yards and 86 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 223-pound Baltimore native is not enrolled at Towson this semester as he pursues the NFL and is sharing his draft experiences with Baltimore Sun reporter Aaron Wilson. The NFL scouting combine starts this week and is an important step for West in the evaluation process. This is the third in an occasional series leading up to the draft in May.

I fly in Thursday for the NFL scouting combine. I can't wait. I'm excited. This is something I've been dreaming of since I was a kid. When I was 9 years old, I used to watch the combine and say, 'I'm going to be there one day.'
I've watched everybody at the combine on TV, great running backs like Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Marshawn Lynch.
What I would say about the combine is nobody's school is going to save them. We're all on equal footing now. It doesn't matter if you went to LSU or Alabama or Towson. Everybody is on the same level. You are on your own and it's up to you to do your thing.
I'm doing every test. I'm attacking every drill and event with an A-plus. I'm looking forward to every drill.
The 40-yard dash is a big test for a running back. I'm not worried about it. I'm going to run and do what I do. I prepared for the 40-yard dash just like I did the shuttle run and cone-drill, bench press and catching the ball.
I've worked very hard. When I was down here [Bradenton, Fla.] at IMG Academy, I gave it my all. I was disciplined. I ate the correct nutrition. I got my rest. I did what I had to do. Now, I have to perform.
This is a business trip. The mental approach is like me preparing for a game. I'm focusing on why I'm there. I'm still going to have fun, but it is a big event. I'm keeping a level head. Nothing changes for me.
I spent this week getting my legs back to get ready for the combine. I did get to the movies once to relax. I saw the new Kevin Hart movie, "About Last Night." It's too funny. He's making a lot of money this year. It's one of those types of movies where you can go and chill and get a great laugh.
Getting to meet all the coaches, it's very exciting. One of those coaches will end up being my coach. I can tell them about me personally.  I want them to know that they'll be getting somebody who will come to work every day and is a team player who's ready to win and help the team win and contribute right away.
I want to start immediately. That's my personality.
I'm not going to the combine to make friends. We're going to all be competing.

Before I came to IMG, I was a little worried about the combine drills. Now, I'm excited about the situation. I wish it was tomorrow.
