Ravens snap count observations from Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals

Jacoby Jones has now played four games since returning from a knee injury last month, but the veteran wide receiver has yet to overtake rookie Marlon Brown on the depth chart based on their playing time.

Besides Smith, who led the Ravens with 46 receiving yards and a touchdown on five catches, no receiver was all that effective Sunday. Jones had two catches for 17 yards and Brown had one for 10. Deonte Thompson and Tandon Doss, who played 24 and 14 snaps respectively, were both held without a catch.

This could be a fluid situation as the Ravens wait for a consistent pass-catcher to emerge opposite Smith. Brown and Jones have both had their moments, as has Doss. But even if Jones is not playing starter-type snaps, his deep speed will ensure he is still a large part of the offense, especially if the Ravens keep playing three wide-outs.

Here are other observations from the official snap counts:

--- Second-year defensive end DeAngelo Tyson played a season-high 23 snaps against the Bengals. He had been inactive the past two games, but the Ravens surprisingly activated him over rookie Brandon Williams. It paid off as Tyson recorded his first career sack. An injury to Haloti Ngata might have been a factor in his bump in playing time. Ngata, who tweaked his knee and left the game for a while, played just 43 of the 89 defensive snaps. Defense end Chris Canty played 57 and defensive tackle Arthur Jones played 43. Backup nose tackle Terrence Cody played 21 snaps.

--- Two players got their first offensive snaps of the season as the Ravens reached into their bag of tricks. Ngata played two snaps as an extra blocker at the goal line and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor got one snap as a receiver, taking an end-around 18 yards. Backup offensive tackle Rick Wagner also got nine snaps as an extra lineman.

--- When left guard A.Q. Shipley sat out a couple of series with an injury, Jah Reid played his first offensive snaps of 2013. He played 10 snaps before Shipley returned.

--- Nicked up at the end of overtime, middle linebacker Daryl Smith sat out his first two defensive snaps of the season Sunday. He still led all Ravens linebackers with 87 snaps. Weak-side linebacker Jameel McClain played 36 snaps while rookie Arthur Brown played 27 snaps at the position. Josh Bynes played 20 snaps on defense.

--- Fullback Vonta Leach saw a slight increase in playing time from a week ago, when he played just two snaps on offense. He played 11 against the Bengals. Running back Ray Rice, who rushed for 30 yards on 18 carries, played 51 snaps as he continued to dominate the playing time over backup Bernard Pierce, who played just 23.

--- Despite being listed as questionable heading into the game, cornerback Jimmy Smith played all 89 defensive snaps. Fellow cornerbacks Lardarius Webb and Corey Graham played 86 and 55, respectively. Fourth cornerback Chykie Brown played 10 in the dime package. Safeties James Ihedigbo and Matt Elam did not sit out a snap.

--- For the second straight week, Ed Dickson dominated the snaps at tight end, playing 51 while Dallas Clark played just 19. Dickson played 22 more than Clark a week ago.

--- Josh Bynes, Chykie Brown, Jeromy Miles, Anthony Levine, Kyle Juszczyk, Albert McClellan and Brynden Trawick all played 20 or more snaps on special teams.
