Steve Smith Sr. nears top 10 in all-time receiving yards

Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., playing in perhaps his final NFL season, is padding some potential-Hall-of-Fame statistics this year with the Ravens.

Each week, we'll update where the 36-year-old stands on some all-time lists, recap any historic achievements and look at what milestones he might be nearing.

Week 7 vs. Cardinals: 5 receptions, 78 yards

A fine game for a mere mortal, but a slightly-down performance for Smith this season.

Career receptions: 956

Smith is 14th all-time and two active players -- San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten -- are just ahead of him. While he probably can't pass those guys, he can certainly move past Randy Moss (982 catches) while in pursuit of Hines Ward, who was the 10th player to manage 1,000 catches in a career.

Career yards receiving: 13,850

Smith needs 50 yards to pass Chris Carter for 10th on the all-time list. If he has a huge game against the Chargers Sunday (155 yards), he'll pass James Lofton for ninth.

Career touchdowns: 84

Smith is tied for 47th. Tommy McDonald and Mark Clayton are next up, tied for 45th with 85 touchdowns.

Week 8 preview

In three career games against the San Diego Chargers, Smith has seven receptions, 59 yards and one touchdown.
