Preakness winner Exaggerator leaves for Belmont Park

Preakness winner Exaggerator, who dueled with Derby winner Nyquist on May 21 in the middle jewel of the Triple Crown before pulling away, is on his way to Belmont Park.

He will likely be a big favorite in the June 4 Belmont Stakes when the morning-line odds are released this week since Nyquist won't be running in the Belmont.

Exaggerator, trained by Keith Desormeaux and ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeax, left Pimlico Race Course at 8:08 a.m. today for New York.

Second in the Kentucky Derby, Exaggerator won the Preakness by 3 1/2 lengths.

Nyquist spiked a fever at the Preakness and blood work showed he had an elevated white cell count, prompting trainer Doug O'Neill to rule him out of the Belmont. He will likely return to California next weekend.
