PPL Park in Chester, Pa., will host the Atlantic Coast Conference men's lacrosse tournament in 2014 and 2015, the conference announced Wednesday. It will mark the first time in eight years that the tournament has been held at a neutral site.
The 18,500-seat stadium, home to Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union, will be the host venue for the ACC on April 25-27, 2014, and again in the spring of 2015.
Next season will be the fourth time in the 26-year history of the tournament that the event has been held at a neutral site. Orlando, Fla., played host in 2001, followed by M&T Bank Stadium in 2005 and 2006.
The 2014 ACC tournament will be the first for both Notre Dame and Syracuse, which join the league this July. Four teams will compete in the tournament, with semifinals April 25 and the championship April 27. The two teams that do not qualify for the championship will play each other Saturday.
The six teams that will compete in the ACC next year have combined to win 23 national championships and have 45 appearances in the title game in the 42-year history of the NCAA tournament.
Dates and a complete ACC tournament format for 2015 will be announced later.
