Omarr Smith named first head coach of Baltimore Arena Football League team

Omarr comin': Arena Football League Hall of Famer named head coach of Baltimore's new franchise.

Arena Football League Hall of Famer Omarr Smith was introduced Wednesday as coach of the league's new Baltimore franchise.

Smith coached the now-defunct LA Kiss last season. Baltimore's AFL team, whose name, logo and uniform are scheduled to be unveiled next month, will play its home games at Royal Farms Arena starting this spring.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment founder Ted Leonsis, the majority owner of the team and the Washington Valor, also beginning play this spring, said Smith "is a proven winner in the AFL." He won four ArenaBowl titles in his nine seasons as a player in the league and served on the coaching staff of three ArenaBowl championship-winning teams.

A Chicago native, Smith played at San Jose State before beginning his AFL career in 2000.
