Mount's Gravante hopes players haven't lost steam

After scoring a potentially season-defining victory over Delaware last Saturday, Mount St. Mary's were brought back down to earth by No. 1 Virginia on Tuesday. The 17-5 shellacking evened the Mountaineers' record at 1-1, but coach Tom Gravante is hoping that the players haven't lost their confidence as they look forward to Saturday's road contest at Towson.

"We kind of got the best and worst within 72 hours," he said Thursday morning. "We were at a very, very high after the Delaware game and then we were at a very, very low after the Virginia game. The question is, can you rebound? We punched that ticket and we still haven't validated that ticket yet after a big win against a very good Delaware team. Our job as a staff is to keep these kids positive and going in the right direction and putting them in practice situations that will help them perform successfully as we move towards the next opponent, which is Towson."

Gravante is a firm believer that there are lessons to be learned whatever the outcome may be, but he deviated from his usual philosophy by telling the players to forget the loss to the Cavaliers immediately after Tuesday's conclusion.

"There were some positives, but not enough to keep us in the game," he said. "I think it's important we stay positive, and we told the kids that there's no time to worry about what just happened. It's about moving on and getting ourselves reorganized and getting ready for a good Towson team."
