No. 5 Terps stymie No. 2 Tar Heels in 10-8 win in men's lacrosse

Senior Joe LoCascio scored a career-high five goals and junior Kyle Bernlohr made 11 saves as the No. 5 Maryland men's lacrosse team knocked off previously unbeaten No. 2 North Carolina, 10-8, on Saturday night in the Pacific Coast Shootout at Santa Ana, Calif.

In a matchup pitting the nation's top defensive and offensive sides, it was the Terps' stingy defense that prevailed, as the Tar Heels (9-1) were held more than eight goals below their season average.

Although North Carolina struck first in the first 90 seconds, Maryland (6-1) answered back with a pair of goals from Henry West and LoCascio. Tate Jozokos then closed the quarter with a Tar Heels goal to tie the game at 2.

That would be the final North Carolina goal for a span of 33:25, however, as LoCascio and Colin Heacock combined for five goals in a 5-0 Terps run that gave Maryland a commanding 7-2 advantage. Heacock finished the game with a career-high three goals.
