The fourth seed in the Midwest Region and a tough NCAA tournament draw mean Maryland men's basketball faces long odds in the betting market when it comes to winning the national championship.
The best odds I could find in a brief look today for Maryland to win the tournament were the 40-1 odds on Sportsbook.com, which place Maryland ahead of Kansas and just behind Notre Dame among non-Kentucky teams in the Midwest region.
Kentucky is an even-money favorite to win the whole tournament, the most overwhelming favorite in the tournament's history.
VegasInsider.com has the Terps at 60-to-1 to win it all, along with Michigan State, Oklahoma, and SMU. Fourteen teams had better odds than Maryland, and on that list, Kentucky, Kansas (40-1) and Notre Dame (50-1) all have better odds of winning the tournament out of the region.
OddsShark.com puts Maryland's odds at 66-1, behind 17 teams, including No. 7 Wichita State out of the Midwest.
Bovada has Maryland as an even bigger longshot, at 75-1, behind 18 teams.
Of course, if you think the Terps' return to the tournament will end in a championship run, this should all be music to your ears.
Just remember which blog you were reading to find the odds should a big payday come your way.
