Orioles' Manny Machado hopes to play every game this year. (Karl Merton Ferron/Baltimore Sun)
Manny Machado has followed a fairly typical progression in his personal branding: Start with the salsa, then go with the logo.
The Orioles All-Star arrived at spring training Tuesday wearing a long-sleeve shirt with a familiar silhouette.
There are enough images of Machado-as-acrobat to fill the Warehouse, but the source material closest to the logo seems to be this June 2013 Getty Images photograph. (The irony: Machado didn't make an out on this play.)
All athletes try to have a #brand. Even some of the journalists who cover them do, too. But the list of stars with silhouettes is small and special: Jordan, Shaq, Griffey, West.
It's unclear whether the tattoo artist who inked his wife's face onto his arm had any input into the design. Let's just assume he didn't.
