Jesse Schwartzman (Pikesville, Johns Hopkins) made 12 saves and picked up an assist, and the host Denver Outlaws broke the then-Baltimore Bayhawks' Major League Lacrosse record for the best start to a season with a 16-7 win over the New York Lizards on Thursday at Sports Authority Field in Denver.
The Outlaws improved to 10-0, surpassing the 2005 Bayhawks' 9-0 run on their way to the league title.The game set another MLL record: The announced crowd of 31,019 was the biggest ever at a professional outdoor lacrosse game.
A pair of former Maryland players played key roles for Denver, which trailed 2-0 and 4-1 in the first quarter -- Drew Snider scored a hat trick, and Jeremy Sieverts (McDonogh) had a 2-point goal and an assist. Brendan Mundorf (UMBC, Mount St. Joseph) contributed two goals and an assist, and Terry Kimener (UMBC) added a pair of assists in the win.
Stephen Peyser (Johns Hopkins) finished with a goal for the Lizards (3-7).
Denver set the previous pro outdoor lacrosse attendance record with 30,128 fans at its 2012 Fourth of July game.
