Lyle Thompson, Albany and Matt Kavanagh, Notre Dame

I'm going to cheat and offer two players to watch in college lacrosse. Any observer would have to begin with Albany senior attackman Lyle Thompson, who shared last year's Tewaaraton Award with older brother Miles.

Thompson, who shattered the single-season record for points and tied another single-season mark for assists, won't have his brother and cousin, Ty Thompson, to set up. But if several young players such as freshman attackman Connor Fields can develop quickly, Thompson might join Syracuse's Mike Powell as the only repeat Tewaaraton winners.

The race for the Tewaaraton could be complicated by Notre Dame junior attackman Matt Kavanagh. Arguably one of the best players in the Fighting Irish's run to the national championship game, the lightning bug-quick Kavanagh could match Thompson in eye-opening plays.

Kavanagh will draw a ton of defensive attention, and rightfully so.
