Loyola's Hawkins still out

A preliminary timetable for the return of Loyola short-stick defensive Josh Hawkins has been revised, and the junior will not be available for Saturday's scrimmage against Harvard.

Hawkins, who amassed three goals, three assists and 53 groundballs, is dealing with an undisclosed injury, but coach Charley Toomey said it is not concussion-related. The initial plan was to insert Hawkins in Saturday's scrimmage, but that won't occur.

"He's out there and he's running, but until he's able to put the helmet on and get into contact, that's when I start to get excited," Toomey said during a media event Wednesday that gathered the head coaches at Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Towson and UMBC at Loyola's Ridley Athletic Complex. "When he's out there with a trainer during practice, I'm probably like, 'Not going to happen.' I don't see them releasing him on Thursday, and even if they did release him on Thursday, I don't see putting him in on Saturday. He's a big part of our program, and we know what we're going to get. When he's healthy, we'll put him out there. But I know he's coming back. It's not something that is a season-ending injury. It's something where he's rehabbing it, and he's going to be released."
